Reaction
I chose this quote because I think that C.S. Lewis states a very powerful point about education. As an educator one of our main goals going into a new school year or classroom is to build upon the student’s prior knowledge. They come to us with previous experiences and it’s imperative not to cancel these learning experiences out. Teachers are there to plant the seeds of knowledge and help guide children in their growing and evolving. Educators are significant providers in providing knowledge, confidence, self esteem, and many other skills to help them flourish and succeed in life. Just like the land we live on needs the basic needs of sun, water, and minerals to continue to grow or be irrigated. Lewis’s quote goes along with the basic beliefs of Piaget’s theories of cognitive development.
